Time is not really suspended, even for the novels beautiful young hero In the light of this comment, discuss ways in which Willed portrays time passing in The Picture Of Dorian Gray. One of the main ways in which Willed portrays time passing is the ageing and changing of the portrait. Dorian is exceptionally vain and becomes convinced, after a brief conversation with rod Henry that his most significant characteristics; his youth and attractiveness are slowly going to fade away. The thought of this makesDorian worried and therefore he curses his fate and pledges his soul so that he could live without bearing the physical burdens of aging and sinning. He no longer sees his beauty as a gift but as something he must fight to retain at any cost. The fact that at first, Dorian Gray is described as a beautiful creature, and someone who should always be there in winter when we have no flowers to look at suddenly, with a matter of time, after listening to Lord Henrys famous aphorisms he soon believes them and with that he turns into meeting completely different from how he was first described. He changes into something volatile with mad hungers that become more ravenous. He goes through life living through sin and pleasure and after being given the yellow book by Lord Henry, he lives under the influence of the book. As he approaches his thirties, many people shun him, whilst others find him charming, due to the fact that these are the people that have seen him in person and therefore dismiss his wrong doings due to the purity of his face.His face however reveals no dissipation; his appearance is merely innocent, only his soul has been poisoned by a book. Although physically Dorian doesnt age, emotionally he does. He seems to grow more and more restricted from others and gain pleasure at any cost, something Freudianism would call an over indulgence of the id the pleasure principle where this pleasure principle is outweighed more than the ego -? reality principle and the superego the morality principle.

The Nature of Good and Evil in Stevenson's The Strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde Introduction: Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is the story of a gifted doctor who discovers a drug which can release the evil side of one's nature. This drug changes Dr Jekyll into Mr Hyde. Stevenson does not reveal the details of Jekyll's story until the end of the novel, but presents the tale as mystery, in which the main characters try to figure out the identity of Mr Hyde and understand his strange relationship with Dr Jekyll. This story follows the gothic genre and below I will explain some gothic features that are used in this story This story follows 'The Faust Motif'. This is The use of a monster (Mr Hyde) Due to the fact that he looks abnormal, disabled and is ugly people feel uncomfortable around him and scared to stand anywhere near him. Another feature would be that Dr Jekyll has a second self or in other words an alternate identity being Mr Hyde. This book uses multiple narratives. This is when the story is told through many different perspectives so that the reader can make up his own mind about what the story is actually about. This story we first hear through the perspective of Mr Utterson and Mr Enfield as they try to discover the relationship between Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Then as the story progresses we hear Mr Hyde's story and towards the end we hear Dr Jekyll' story. I think that Stevenson was trying to show that good and evil cannot be changed or intervened with using the aid of science. He gets his point across when we find out how Dr Jekyll ends up suffering and leading to his own downfall by trying to get rid of hi... ...t they have seen, experienced and had evidence of rather than talking about what they have heard Conclusion In this essay I have gone through the main points of the story. From the beginning where Mr Hyde tramples the young girl and Mr Utterson and Mr Enfield decide to track Mr Hyde. Then I carried on by going onto how the doors of houses and other places can symbolise what is behind them and what type of person uses them. After that I analysed Mr Hyde in depth and discussed his actions. Including when he trampled the young girl and paid her family money to avoid any sort of trouble. Then he brutally murdered Sir Danvers Carew, even though from the maids perspective it seemed as if they were friends. Then I commented on the use of multiple narratives and the relationship between the narrators.

One of the techniques used by Thorpe Park to market their rides is influencing buyer behaviour. Influencing buyer behaviour is when businesses change things around their product to try and get customers to purchase their product or service. For example Thorpe Park may lower their prices during the autumn because that is when their repeat purchase declines. This may encourage customers to go because Thorpe Park usually doesn’t sell their tickets at this price; they will also know that they are getting a good deal from this because Thorpe Park is actually worth more than that. Thorpe Park could also influence buyer behaviour through using celebrity endorsements by making the theme park look fun, cool and enjoyable place to go, by doing so they are building up their brand image as well. This may influence consumers and may draw them to the park because of the way Thorpe Park has presented themselves through their brand image. Another technique which Thorpe Park could use to market their product is brand building. Thorpe Park could build up their brand so that they can get more customers by using celebrity endorsements. For example they could give celebrities free tickets to Thorpe Park in exchange of them promoting and telling people how amazing the rides are etc. Once people hear and see how amazing Thorpe Park is, Thorpe Park will start to see more people coming to Thorpe Park. This will help them build up a good brand image because of the popularity of the celebrities. Thorpe Park could also use celebrities from well-known movies or programmes to influence buyer behaviour and create a certain brand image which allows Thorpe Park to have an effect on consumer’s choice. Thorpe used colours really well in their advert, they made it link to their theme. They used dark/ greyish colours to create the mood and tension in their advert. This enabled the audience to watch it and question what’s going to happen next. It’s important for Thorpe Park to be successful in this area of the advert to have a successful campaign; if not the businesses advertisement wouldn’t be worthwhile and have no effect on the business by not increasing sales or visitors. 2. Ability to target market is would be no. 1 because they used young people a lot in their advert which is who they are aiming at. They also made the advert appeal to their audience. For example when the swarm goes through the billboard and boy is screaming it makes the ride look scary because it seems like you’re going to crash and seeing that adrenaline and scared look on his face may convince them enough to try out the Swarm ride. 3. Reference to product will be in second place because they’re main focus is to promote the ride and they need to give the audience a visual image of the ride so they know what they are going on. However others may say that’s not how Thorpe Park looks when you get because they’ve exaggerated the scenery to go with the theme of their advert. 4. Duration is just the right length because of Thorpe Parks target audience (teenagers/ young adults). The advert is short and to the point. If the advert was longer, the audience may not pay attention as they are easily distracted. However the beginning is a 5. The message is very clear to the audience. The message tells the audience that it is a thrilling but fine ride you don’t want to miss out on. It also gives you a bit of history on what the ride was based on (alien invasion). They delivered the message well to their audience so it doesn’t leave them guessing what was this about? 6. I think the music in the background worked well in certain areas. For example when he’s taken on the ride the rock music works well with it but I think near the end they should’ve brought back down to the tensed music in the beginning.

Set with the task of interviewing three people about their life experiences and perceptions in hopes of gleaming a bit of insight into gender identity, I had several people say to me that gender was not an issue in their life, and I should just find someone else. Most people never think about their gender or how they express it, or they think that gender and sex are the synonyms ( American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
